Create a Mindful Life

"...Truly, the greatest gift you have to give is that of your own self transformation."

                    ---Lao Tzu

ABOUT ME

When I took my first job as a psychotherapist in 1988, I had no idea what I was supposed to do other than listen and be supportive.  I knew how it felt to be 'seen' and validated from my own perspective and I knew how powerful those things could be.  I knew I spent a lot of time pondering why it was so hard to make healthy life changes that stuck and so easy to veer off course.  I thought I might find answers in my pursuit of my master's degree in Neuropsychology, but even after I graduated in 1992 I still found myself asking why without a lot of answers.

As I grew into my role of therapist, I began to see that all of the information available in texts, seminars and classrooms was only a foundation for understanding human behavior. The real answers found their way to me when I engaged in therapy with another person. Through our questioning of things together, I was allowed to witness 'a-ha' moments and watch courageous moments of diving deep to find a personal truth. THOSE MOMENTS gave me my real understanding of my role, as a witness to a quest for truth.

While living in New Mexico from 2005 -2015,  I began practicing  mindfulness and realized that was key to being present not only in my life but also in my role as a therapist too.  (You can read more about that HERE. ) Yes, I've studied Levine, Ellis, Rogers, Katie, Brown and many others.  I acknowledge their importance and the necessity of their words; however, without authenticity, a therapist is just a person who has read and studied a lot.

If my resume is important, here are a few facts: I graduated Magna Cum Laude from undergrad at Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, PA and graduate school at Marywood University Scranton, PA.  I have worked in this field since 1988. I feel the greatest gifts I have to offer are presence, compassion, perspective and a deep respect for each individual's humanity.   To find out more about my goals, philosophy and services, CLICK HERE.
